On Tuesday, 21 August 2012, Cardiff Schools Under 15s played South Gloucester in their first game of the 2012/13 season. It was a friendly played over three 20 minute sessions and gave the newly assembled squad a chance to get to know each other in their first competitive game together.
Cardiff opened the scoring
with a well taken goal from Tremaine Jeanne, which was soon followed up
with a goal from Dan Raymond. At the end of the first session the
score stood at 2-0 to the Cardiff Schoolboys.
In
the second session, the Gloucester picked up the pace of their game and
maintained possession well. Unfortunately for them, on one of their
attacking forays, they left the back door open and Dan Raymond got in
behind their defence to make it 3-0 to Cardiff. Undaunted, Gloucester
continued to press and pulled back a goal to make it 3-1 to keep
themselves in the game.
In
the third and final session both teams knew the next goal would be
vital and Gloucester maintained the pressure as they looked to create
openings. With the luck running against them, Gloucester conceded an
own goal, making the scoreline 4-1 and putting the game all but out of
their reach. As Cardiff relaxed Gloucester continued to push forward
and pulled back another goal, making the final score 4-2 to Cardiff.
This
was a good all-round performance by the Cardiff squad, which saw the
integration of a number of new players and bodes well for the future.
Their performance was all the more impressive given it was the Under 16s
Gloucester team they had played.
