In the A Division, Marlboro Black find themselves leapfrogging Butetown having gained a 4-2 win over their rivals for third place. Nick Davies scored all four goals for Marlboro. Being held to a 2-2 draw in their local derby with Llanedeyrn means Pentwyn miss out on the chance to secure third spot. Meantime, Pentyrch, who were only able to field a team of ten, secured an impressive 3-1 win over Maindy. Pentyrch secured an early two goal lead with goals from Callum Barry and Joe Santos, which they took with them to half-time. In the second half, Maindy came more into the game and pulled one back. For a while they pressed the Pentyrch defence, but cool play and crisp passing football kept the Maindy threat at bay. And it was superb passing football that ended with a final pass that cut the Maindy defence open for Callum Barry to run on to and slot past the Maindy keeper. The win means Pentyrch maintain their unbeaten run since the start of 2013. Fairwater continue to lose touch in the battle for third place but gave second place Rhiwbina Black a tough contest.
Urdd saw their unbeaten run come to an end against Danescourt in what was a keenly contested match. Urdd started brightly, scoring on 3 minutes through Rhodri Morgan. After 17 minutes Danescourt struck back to level the score, but Cai Hayes scored soon after to again edge Urdd into the lead. Danescourt finished the half on a high, scoring with three minutes to go, and again just before the half time whistle to go in 3-2 at the break. In this see-saw match, Morgan levelled for Urdd two minutes into the second half but Danescourt again regained the lead straight from the restart. The pattern was repeated: Morgan completing his hat-trick on 51 minutes. Yet again Danescourt immediately regained the lead on 52 minutes. Danescourt then went on to dominate the remainder of the second half, sealing their win with a sixth goal on 74 minutes. League leaders, Grangetown, secured a 7-4 win over Marlboro Red and their position at the top of the B Division.
On paper, the
match of the day across all the U15 leagues was the Dragons v
Grangetown Athletic game in the C Division. But it was the free-scoring Dragons who came out on top with a 10-1 victory over second place Grangetown Athletic. Having won all
their league games to date it was a double disappointment for Grangetown. To begin, Grangetown looked the more threatening, but two quick counter-strikes gave Dragons the initiative. From then on the Dragons were quicker to the ball, stronger in the tackle and had a greater cutting edge in attack. Having also fallen last week to the power of the Dragons - and their first defeat - Gwaelod Rangers returned to winning ways with a 7-2 victory over Llanedeyrn.
