Fixtures Saturday, 16 February 2013
Cardiff & District football matches have been given the go-ahead for this weekend. A number of them may well be starting earlier than normal, so that players, coaches and parents can make Cardiff City's home fixture with Bristol City at 1pm. So double-check kick-off times with your coach.
The big game of the day in the Under 15s league is the fixture which sees top-of-the-table St Albans host second place Rhiwbina Black. These games are always close-run. When they met earlier in the season, the Buns edged the game 2-1 with a last minute winner. Rhiwbina will be keen to notch up a victory so that they can close the gap on their rivals. But St Albans are really on top of their game at the moment and will not be ready to relinquish their fifty-plus run of victories. Rhiwbina had to work hard for their win over Fairwater last week, while St Albans had a comfortable win. We will know by about 11.30 on Saturday which was the better preparation for this crunch game. Third place Pentwyn are home to Pentyrch and will be looking to maintain their steady progress. No doubt frustrated by letting their lead slip last week, Pentyrch will be keen to make amends. Pentwyn might well be favourites, but Pentyrch are more than capable of springing a surprise.
In the B Division the top three teams all have what would appear to be winnable games that could see them open up quite a gap on the rest of the division. After their first victory of the season last week Urdd could well find themselves a mid-table team, if they secure a victory over Llanedeyrn. But the same, of course, applies to Llanedeyrn.
In the C Division, first place Dragons and second place Grangetown Athletic have the chance to widen their lead over the rest of the division. But the game to watch out for is the match between Marlboro White and Gwaelod Rangers. Marlboro will want to stay in touch with the leaders, but Gwaelod have a number of games in hand, which means they are still capable of challenging for the top spot in the division.
